Myanmar Activist to Serve 18 Months

Activist and Nobel laureate, Aung San Suu Kyi was sentenced to an additional 18 months of house arrest for violating her current house arrest by not reporting the unannounced visit of an American to her home.  Leaders across Europe and the US have condemned the decision, which will remove her from the public spotlight during a controversial election next year.  Ms. Suu Kyi has spent 14 out of the past 20 years as a prisoner for her work in organizing opposition to the military junta in power.
