French Authorities Investigating Charities

French magistrates have begun preliminary investigations into several French charities with connections to US based marketing and mailing firms.  Investigators are looking into allegations that funds may be diverted to other purposes.  French authorities singled out Airma, which only spent 8.4% of the $7.4 million it collected from 2004 to 2008 on Alzheimer’s research.  The marketing firms in question are the DC based Market Development Group, and Maryland based Saturn Corp, which both deny wrongdoing.
